Rain, rain, go away, come again another day ... or don't! Although we may wish for nothing but clear blue skies, a photo shoot in the rain has many advantages that are often overlooked. Check out our top ten reasons why a rainy day shoot might be your new favourite thing.

1. Beauty Lights
When rain clouds roll in, it blocks the sun and diffuses the light, which means no risk of harsh shadows on faces. This diffused light provides a beautiful soft glow that works better than any facial.

2. Colour Pop
The diffused light is not only magical for faces, it does wonders for the landscape. Colours become richer when not washed out by the sun, and details that may have been hidden in shadow suddenly pop into the frame. As well, the wet ground can act as a mirror to give luminosity to your photos not found in sunny, bright photos.

3. Bring On the Romance
The damp chill of rain has you snuggling a little closer to your sweetie to stay warm, making you feel like the only ones around. Romance sparked! (Even better if you duck into a secluded spot to stay dry ... )

4. Cute Prop
Like any good accessory, umbrellas can act as a useful prop to bring a splash of colour and pattern into the photo. Positioned properly, they can even be used to bring focus onto the subjects while complementing the background, as in the Lake Como photo below.

5. Good, Clean Fun
If there's one thing we can't control, it's the weather. When the rain starts to fall, it's an opportunity to resign yourself to Mother Nature and give over to the fun of it. There's a reason why "Singing in the Rain" is a popular song - it speaks to our inner joy when we feel the sky washing over us.

6. Kids Love It
Speaking of inner joy, what could be better than watching children play in the rain? They love to splash, run and laugh while the drops fall. Rain brings out the fun side in everyone who embraces it.

7. Privacy
Even in a busy location like Central Park in New York City (below), chances are good you will be the only ones in your photos, as everyone else has run for cover.

8. Serenity
When the rain falls, a certain calmness descends over our busy lives. Rainy days provide the right mood to capture the peace found in a reflective moment.
